The Importance of Not Being Idle

There are two kinds of people in the world, and they can be found most commonly in grocery stores.  First, there are the people who shop for their own groceries and walk around with their heads down and their mouths shut, focuses solely on the task at hand, whether it be finding the brand of cereal that their kids love or the bag of chips that they love so much.  Then there are observant people.  People who decide to use their senses, and look around and take in their environment.  People who don’t live solely in their own self-sufficient worlds and live within themselves.
There’s no question that people set up boundaries.  It’s because, to some extent, we need our own personal space.  However, don’t let those boundaries hinder the opportunities that we all have to form relationships and communities.  OBSERVE the world around you.  See if someone needs help.  See if you can reach out to someone.  We live in a world where people are so hyper-focused on their own goals, and are usually looking down at their smartphones.  LOOK UP AND OBSERVE.  You never know what might happen.  Give someone a smile.  Lend someone a hand.

Observe the world around you.  It’s the greatest service that you can do for yourself and for your community.

The Case For Airports

You never know where you can build a community of kind people. I’m sure over the holiday season a lot of people spent an amount of time in airports that they wish they could get back. Airports are great places to meet people and create communities because of the diversity and spontaneity that they demand. Next time you’re at an airport, reach out to someone! Help them with their bag, or ask them about how their flight went, or at the very least, give that pesky TSA officer a nice smile and a thank you after they inspect your bags.

As much as people say they can’t stand airports, there’s a certain romance to them.  There are people from different states, countries, and continents at airports.  Take your headphones off, take your earphones out, lift your head up from your travel guide for whichever beautiful destination you’re headed to.  Lift your head up and talk to someone!  Give someone a hello or a nice smile.  You never know what might happen or the friendships that you can make.  You can create a community of kindness during your layover.  All it takes is a simple smile.

Communities can be woven anytime and anywhere and YOU can be the catalyst to start that community. That is what being part of 1/1/1 is about. Start a community of kind and compassionate people today, wherever you are.

Welcome to The 111 Leaders Project

A lot of people set out to "create a better world" or "achieve world peace" these days by using grand, sweeping gestures.  The reason why a lot of those plans never come to fruition is because they become so convoluted in every day life.  The 111 Leaders Project was created to form communities of compassionate and kind people not by huge gestures like donating huge sums of money to charities or creating your own non-profit.  Our message is simple.  Bring people together with small, kind, and generous gestures.

What’s the 1 1 1 Project?

SIGN// The 1 1 1 Project requires your pledge. The project embraces the simplicity that the modern world has come to embrace. The mission is simple: to create a community of inspired, connected, and supportive individuals. By making the pledge, you are required to complete four simple tasks.

SET//  Take simple steps towards 1 goal; no matter how simple or complex. Your goal can be as simple as brushing your teeth every day or as complex as becoming better at a sport. Write down your goal, and put it in a place where you can constantly be reminded of it. Set a time frame for when you want to achieve the goal you've set.

SMILE//  Make someone’s day by giving them a smile. That’s it. Just 1 smile!

SERVE// Do 1 good act for someone else. Open a door for someone, compliment them, and open the door for them. Be simple! Everyone tells you to “serve” your community. This will help you.

SPREAD
// After you’ve achieved your goal, set another one and sign the pledge again. Ask one of your friends to sign the pledge.

SHARE// Share your success story with us!

SIMPLE
// The project prides itself on being simple. Set a goal. Work towards achieving it. Give someone a smile. Be nice to another person. Sign the pledge and make the world a little bit nicer.
sign. set. smile. serve. spread. share. simple.

1 for yourself. 1 for someone else. 1 for the community.

Welcome to The 111 Leaders Project.
